PlayStation 3 Review: The Ultimate Video Game System
Sony’s PlayStation 3, the third console in the PlayStation series, was released in November of 2006. The PS3 is a seventh generation console that competes directly with the Xbox 360 by Microsoft, and the Nintendo Wii. Sony has made some major improvements over the PlayStation 2 to provide you with excellent graphics and sound quality for the ultimate gaming experience.
One of the best features of the PS3 is the High-Definition Blu-ray Disc drive. This allows you to play games, watch Blu-ray movies and regular DVD movies, and play CDs. The PS3 is the only gaming console at the moment to come with a Blu-ray drive. This is a big plus for anyone looking to buy a Blu-ray player and loves to play video games. By only having to buy one unit, rather than two, you will save some cabinet space, cut down on excessive cable clutter, and, most importantly, save you some money. You can even customize the console with PS3 skins.
Wi-Fi is also integrated into the PlayStation 3. This makes it simple to connect to your broadband home network without having to run a cable across the room or through the walls. You will be able to wirelessly receive system updates and game updates. Sony also offers free access to the PlayStation Network. By signing onto the PlayStation Network, you can connect to play games and video or voice chat with other online players. If you have family or friends that have a PlayStation 3, this is a great way to stay in touch and fun at the same time. There is also an Internet Browser built into the PS3 for web surfing.
Since its release, the PlayStation 3 has gone through several configuration changes. Previous models came with 20GB, 40GB, 60GB, and 80GB hard drives. All but the 40GB model were backward compatible with PlayStation 2 games and came with 4 USB ports. The models available now come with either an 80GB or 160GB hard drive, two USB ports, HDMI output for 1080p resolution, and are not compatible with PS2 games. More ports can be added by using a high speed USB certified hub and the hard drive can be removed and upgraded to a larger drive.
The PS3 comes with the DualShock 3 wireless controller. This controller uses Bluetooth technology that allows you to play without having to worry about being wired to the console. The DualShock 3 can be charged by connecting it to the PS3 with its USB cable, even while you’re still playing. The controller also vibrates with hits, crashes, and explosions, so you can become even more immersed in the game.
With all its extra features, the PlayStation 3 is more than just a great video game console. The ability to watch Hi-Def Blu-ray movies, DVDs, play CDs, play online games, video and voice chat, web browsing, and more make the PS3 an excellent addition to anyone’s home entertainment system.
