Guitar Hero 5 Revealed
Had enough of the awesomeness that Guitar Hero provides? Too bad. This year, Activision has already released Guitar Hero: Metallica and plans to release Guitar Hero: Smash Hits this June, and yet there’s even more left in them. Activision has had video game studio Neversoft developing Guitar Hero 5 for some time now, and fans of the franchise will be glad to hear that some impressive evolutions have been applied to the overall concepts that Guitar Hero is so well known for.
As you would hope, the new Guitar Hero will have a much larger focus on game-play. The guys at Neversoft have considered the fact that when it comes to rhythm party games like GH, people like to have it their way. In both multi-player quick-play and campaign modes, it’s now possible for up to players to jump in and play using any combination of instruments. It may seem weird that you can have more than one person on guitar/bass/drums/vocals, but does logic really figure into it as long as people are having fun? In any case, this idea is expanded on even more in the game’s Party Play mode, where the game automatically plays through a chosen set-list until someone decides to jump in and play the song himself. At this point more players can either jump in as the same instrument or a different one. When they’re finished, they can simply drop out without effecting the music. The song will keep playing.
Neversoft has also incorporated some new multi-player modes, two being Momentum and Streakers. Momentum is essentially your average play-through of a song only each player is fighting to get the most points, and in Streakers the idea is gain the most points by hitting ten notes in a row throughout the song.
The songlist has not yet been released to the public, but the Band list has, and it’s quite extensive. And by that I also mean varied. Expect to see bands like Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Megadeth, Muse, Motley Crue, The Kaiser Chiefs, Garbage, Thin Lizzy, The Killers, The Police, Rush, Public Enemy, The Raconteurs, Stevie Wonder, The Raconteurs, White Stripes, The Rolling Stones, Santana, Weezer, Arctic Monkeys, and even Rammstein. You get the idea. Extensive.
Activision plans to release Guitar Hero 5 this September. More information on the game will come out over time, but I think it’s pretty clear at this point that 5 should easily please the average Guitar Hero fanatic.
